Abstract:
The idea that emotion and cognition are separate functions of the mind has long been entrenched both in theory and in culture. Recently, the thought collective surrounding these ideas has shifted, and researchers have begun to view emotion and cognition as inextricably linked. This shift encourages an examination of emotion as having properties similar to those of cognition and brings up questions about how to research such properties. This website leads through the theoretical history of emotion and cognition, via all the external factors influencing both, and ends up with a discussion of the parallels held by the theory of distributed cognition and a notion of distributed emotion.
